Former heavyweight boxer and entrepreneur George Foreman has died.
Family members of the former heavyweight champion announced on his Instagram page that Foreman died on Friday, he was 76 years old.
“A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose,” the post said.
Foreman competed in heavyweight boxing between 1967 and 1997, and earned the nickname “Big George.” He was the world heavyweight champion of boxing in 1973 and in 1994, holding the record as the oldest heavyweight champion ever.
Foreman also won a gold medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.
When foreman came back after his first retirement in 1994, he attributed his success to a change in his eating habits. Years later, he was approached by Salton, Inc. to sponsor the company’s fat reducing grill, which would later be named the “George Foreman Grill.”
The grill is considered one of the best selling products of all-time, selling well over 100 million units since it was created.
