Joseph Sharrow named athletic director at Wake County’s new Felton Grove High School
Felton Grove High School, the newest high school in Wake County, has selected its first athletic director.
Jospeh Sharrow, the athletic director at Jordan High School in Durham, has been approved by the Wake County Board of Education as the first athletic director at Felton Grove, according to Principal Robert Morrison.
Sharrow’s first day will be July 1.
“I am honored to take on this incredible opportunity at Felton Grove High School,” Sharrow said. “Building an athletic program at a new school is a tremendous challenge, but I am energized by the passion of our school community and the strong support within the Wake County Public School System. Deran Coe, our district athletic director, is unmatched as a leader of interscholastic athletics in our state, and i look forward to working alongside and learning from him.”
Since 2022, Sharrow has been the athletic director at Jordan, leading a program that consists of 28 varsity sports and more 800 student-athletes. Jordan has won conference, regional, and state championships during that time, including five conference titles so far this school year.
Sharrow was named the HighSchoolOT Honors Athletic Director of the Year in 2023 and received the N.C. Athletic Directors Association Athletic Director of Excellence award in 2024. Sharrow currently teaches training courses for athletic directors through the NCADA.
Before arriving at Jordan, Sharrow was the athletic director at Vance County High School, and before that at Southern Vance HIgh School. He helped consolidate the athletic departments at Southern Vance and Northern Vance High School when Vance County opened in 2018.
Sharrow said he shares a vision for building a community at Felton Grove that has been expressed by Morrison.
“(Morrison’s) dedication to establishing a strong foundation for our school will ensure that our student-athletes thrive both on and off the field. I am excited to work under his leadership and help build something truly special for the Felton Grove Galaxy,” said Sharrow.
Felton Grove revealed its colors and mascot last fall. The Galaxy will feature light blue and red, similar to the old Houston Oilers color scheme.
The new school is located at 8550 Stephenson Road in Apex, not far from Middle Creek High School.
Felton Grove’s membership in the N.C. High School Athletic Association was approved by the board of directors in December. It will be a 6A high school, participating in the yet-to-be-named 6A/7A conference with Cardinal Gibbons, Cary, Holly Springs, Middle Creek, and Sanderson.
