Corinth Holders scores 7 unanswered runs to rally past Apex Friendship
Corinth Holders found itself trailing 4-1 giong into the bottom of the third inning on Wednesday, but the Pirates rallied back to beat Apex Friendship in a non-conference baseball game.
The Pirates tied the game in the bottom of the third and went on to score seven unanswered runs to claim an 8-4 win.
With two outs in the bottom of the third inning, Noah Hince scored on a wild pitch to cut the Patriots’ lead to 4-2.
In the same inning and still with two outs, as Reese File stole second, Taco Ferguson scored to bring the Pirates within 4-3. Then a single by Carter Wall allowed File to score, tying the game at 4-4 through three innings.
Apex Friendship went down in order in the top of the fourth inning, then Corinth Holders took the lead for good. Conner Dunlop was walked to lead off the inning, then a ground ball by Carson Mentlewski and an error by the Patriots allowed Dunlop to score.
Mentlewski scored moments later thanks to a single by Brody Hines. Tanner Wilder, who came in as the courtesy runner for Hines, scored the last run of the inning off a wild pitch. Corinth Hodlers led 7-4 through four innings.
The Pirates added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning when a Mentlewski single brought Wilder home.
Apex Friendship only had three batters at the plate in the top of the sixth inning as they went down on a ground out, a line out, and a strikeout. Then after a lead off walk to start the seventh inning, three straight Apex Friendship batters were struckout by Mentlewski to end the game.
The seventh inning was the only inning pitched for Mentlewski, who finished with three strikeouts, allowing no hits and no runs. Brayden Driver pitched 3.0 innings, threw four strikeouts, and also didn’t allow a hit or run.
Wilder led Corinth Holders in runs scored with two. Four different Pirates recorded an RBI in the game.
Connor Payne had two RBI for Apex Friendship and also recorded one run on one hit. Braden Bloom, Ajay Rychcik, and Logan Seepers also scored runs for the Patriots.
