Seaforth claims first boys indoor track & field state championship, Farmville Central places second

For the first time in school history, Seaforth has won an indoor track & field state championship.

The Hawks finished the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A/2A state championship meet with 62 points at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem on Friday night. The point total was comfortably ahead of second-place Farmville Central, which finished with 37 points.

Seaforth finished the day with five gold medals, including two from Will Cuicchi. The senior, who has committed to Charlotte, won the 1600 meter race with a time of 4:26.65 and the 1000 meter race with a time of 2:29.76, which was a new 1A/2A state record.

Other first-place finishes for Seaforth included Sebastian Calderon (1:06.63) in the 500 meter race, Jack Anstrom (9:33.78) in the 3200 meter run, and Ryan Yoder (14-07.00) in the pole vault.

Seaforth’s 4×400 meter relay team placed second.

Farmville Central’s second-place finish was propelled by Cameron Sessoms, who placed first in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.50. The Jaguars also placed second in the 4×200 meter relay and Jalice Payton finished third in the 500 meter race.

There was a new state meet record set in the 300 meter dash. T.W. Andrews’ Ja’Neil Harris finished the race in 33.96 seconds, beating the previous state meet record of 34.09 seconds, which Harris set himself in 2023.

Chase Farlow of Randleman tied the previous 1A/2A record in the high jump, posting a height of 6-10.00. The last time that feat was achieved at the 1A/2A meet was in 2010.

Rounding out the top five in the team standings were Salisbury, Eastern Wayne, and T.W. Andrews.
