T.W. Andrews hires former Northern Guilford star Mook Reynolds as head coach

T.W. Andrews High School in High Point has landed its next head football coach.

The Red Raiders are going with Jamon “Mook” Reynolds, a former star at Northern Guilford High School. He is replacing Mitchell Jenkins.

After graduating from Northern Guilford in 2015, Reynolds went on to play at Virginia Tech under Frank Beamer. At Northern Guilford, Reynolds had 1,773 receiving yards and 25 receiving touchdowns over his final two years.

Reynolds had been the defensive coordinator at Southeast Alamance High School, a growing new program. Southeast Alamance finished with an 11-1 overall record in 2024. Reynolds’ defense posted four shutouts and gave up just 9.3 points-per-game.

With an average daily membership of 843 students this school year, the Red Raiders are set to become a 4A program following the N.C. High School Atheltic Association’s realignment into eight classifications later this year.

In the second draft of proposed new conferences, T.W. Andrews was placed in a 4A/5A league with fellow 4As Central Davidson, Ledford, Lexington, and Randleman as well as 5As High Point Central and Montgomery Central.

T.W. Andrews has won four state championships in its history.

Here is the full statement that was released by T.W. Andrews athletic director Justin Moyer:

High Point, NC – T.W. Andrews High School is excited to announce the hiring of Jamon “Mook” Reynolds as the new Head Football Coach for the upcoming season. Reynolds, a seasoned coach and former standout player, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to the program.

Reynolds most recently served as the Defensive Coordinator for Southeast Alamance, where he helped elevate the team’s defensive strategy to one of the best in the state. Under his leadership, the Stallions defense ranked in the top 5 statewide, holding 15 opponents to under 10 points over a two-year period. This past season, his defense allowed only 3.4 points per game in regular season play, demonstrating his expertise in building a dominant defensive unit.

A former standout defensive player at Virginia Tech, Reynolds is known for his toughness, versatility, and leadership. He played both whip linebacker and defensive back for legendary coach Frank Beamer and defensive mastermind Bud Foster. Reynolds’ remarkable college career featured notable performances in high-profile games like the Battle of Bristol and the ACC Championship, where he faced off against current NFL stars Alvin Kamara and Deshaun Watson.

Before his time at Virginia Tech, Reynolds was a highly recruited 4-star athlete and a two-time all-state and all-metro honoree at Northern Guilford High School. He won two North Carolina state championships with the Northern Guilford Nighthawks, where he demonstrated leadership both on and off the field.

In addition to his coaching experience, Reynolds is passionate about mentoring the next generation of athletes and young men. In 2019, he founded Next In Line Training, a program dedicated to teaching football skills and life lessons to high school athletes. Under his guidance, several of his trainees have received scholarships to local colleges and universities.

“I am thrilled to join the T.W. Andrews community and bring my passion for football, leadership, and mentorship to the students and athletes here,” said Coach Reynolds. “I look forward to building a strong and successful program that will not only develop talented football players but also foster character and discipline that will serve them on and off the field.”

Coach Reynolds is also proud to share his life with his wife Larenilee, their daughter Anorah, and his extended family and friends, who continue to be his biggest supporters.

T.W. Andrews High School is confident that under Coach Reynolds’ leadership, the football program will reach new heights and create an environment of growth, success, and excellence for all student-athletes.
