According to CNN reporter Jacob Lev

Hayden Hurst, a tight end for the Carolina Panthers, was recently diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia, according to a statement from his father posted on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday.

Jerry Hurst, the father of Hurst, stated that an unrelated neurologist confirmed the diagnosis after the 30-year-old suffered a concussion in the team’s Week 10 match against the Chicago Bears.

“His recovery is progressing slowly and we are unsure of when he will return,” his father stated. “We would appreciate any prayers.”

Post-traumatic amnesia occurs when an individual experiences memory loss for events that occurred before and after sustaining an injury.

Despite still following concussion protocol, Hurst returned to practice on Wednesday with limited participation, according to a team spokesperson who spoke with CNN.

Hurst has been absent from the past three games.

CNN has contacted Hurst’s representatives for a statement.

Hurst was selected in the initial round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens from the University of South Carolina. He inked a three-year deal with the Panthers during the recent offseason. So far this season, Hurst has recorded 18 receptions for 184 yards and one touchdown.

During his six-year tenure, Hurst has also been a member of the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals.
