Wilks returns to the NFL as NY Jets DC :: WRALSportsFan.com

The New York Jets are adding some experience to their new coaching staff.
Former Carolina Panthers Interim Head Coach Steve Wilks will be joining the Jets as their new Defensive Coordinator according to reports.
The Jets recently hired former Detroit Lions Defensive Coordinator Aaron Glenn as their new head coach. With addition of Wilks, Glenn gains an assistant coach with some head coaching experience in the NFL, as he embarks on his first head coaching job.
Wilks, a Charlotte native, coached in various roles on the Carolina Panthers coaching staff from 2012-2017. He was the team’s Defensive Coordinator in 2017. In 2018 he became the Arizona Cardinals Head Coach, although he was fired after only one season.
Wilks made his return to Charlotte in 2022 as a defensive backs coach, but was promoted to interim head coach after Matt Rhule was fired midseason, leading the Panthers to a 6-6 record after taking over.
Wilks was the Defensive Coordinator for the 2023 San Francisco 49ers who represented the NFC in Super Bowl LVII.
