No. 23 Fike remains unbeaten with big road win at rival Hunt
WILSON, N.C. – A half dozen teams continue to jockey for the top playoff seeds in a loaded 3A eastern region.
No. 23 ranked Fike is doing its part, taking care of what is in front of it to the tune of a 15-0 record. On Monday night, the Demons used a big first half to bury rival Hunt 68-31.
Emory Skinner set the tone with two quick threes from the corner. Jamaria Freeman followed with seven in the frame to open up a 15-6 advantage.
Freeman rode her hot start into the second, adding 6 more of her game-high 22. Skinner, Jewel Brewington, and Kylar Horvath combined for 15 points in the second period to push the Demon lead to 40-18 at the break.
The third quarter belonged to Brewington, who dropped in eight more points. Fike triggered a running clock in the final two minutes of the third to cruise to victory.
Brooklyn Thoms’ nine points, on the strength of two threes, led Hunt in scoring.
Fike continues conference play on Tuesday at home against South Johnston. It is 15-0 overall and 6-0 in league play. Hunt puts its 6-9 record on the line at home on Tuesday when Smithfield-Selma pays visit.
