Providence Grove AD Cody Moran to take over as head football coach
The next head football coach at Providence Grove High School will be Cody Moran, who is also the current athletic director.
Moran has stepped into the role, which is takes over from interim Mark Helig. Helig was moved into the interim slot right before the 2024 season after previous head coach David Hayes left the school. Hayes is now the district athletic director at Uwharrie Charter Academy.
Helig will remain as the boys golf coach for the spring, Moran confirmed to HighSchoolOT.
In 2024, Providence Grove produced a 3-7 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the Piedmont Athletic 1A/2A Conference. The Patriots lost three games by one score. Prior to this season, Providence Grove finished .500 or better for six straight years.
Moran is an alum of Randleman High School, which is in Randolph County along with Providence Grove. He played under Shane Handy for the Tigers’ football program. He returned to Randleman to teach history and coach in 2018.
Providence Grove hired Moran as a history teacher in 2019. He coached running backs from 2019-2020, defensive line from 2020-24, and was the defensive coordinator in 2004.
The school promoted him to athletic director in January 2023.
Providence Grove has an average daily membership of 587 students this school year. As a result of that enrollment size, the Patriots are set to become a 3A program once the N.C. High School Athletic Association realigns into eight classifications later this year.
In the initial draft of conferences released by the NCHSAA, the Patriots were placed in a 3A-only league with East Davidson, Thomasville, Trinity, West Davidson, and Wheatmore.
