Cardinal Gibbons junior Genevieve Harris has been named the Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year in volleyball, the organization announced on Thursday morning.
Harris is a 5-foot-11 setter who helped Cardinal Gibbons to a perfect 22-0 record this past fall, including a win in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state championship.
In those 22 games, Harris recorded 578 assists, including 56 assists in the 3-1 state championship win over Marvin Ridge where she earned Most Valuable Player honors. She also posted 125 digs, 77 kills, 37 service aces, and 37 blocks this past season.
Harris’ performance as a junior earned her a spot on the American Volleyball Coaches Association First Team All-American Team.
Harris is a finalist for the HighSchoolOT Honors Volleyball Offensive Player of the Year Award. She was also named to the HighSchoolOT All-State Team and was the N.C. Volleyball Coaches Association 4A Player of the Year.
In her three years of high school so far, Harris has amassed 1,935 career assists.
When she’s not playing volleyball, Harris has spent time volunteering as a youth volleyball coach in the community.
In the classroom, Harris has a 4.23 weighted GPA. She has verbally committed to play volleyball at the University of Texas in the fall of 2026.
