Pregame Notes

  • Seventy-First senior quarterback DeAndre Nance is not expected to start. He injured his knee in the regional final against Jacksonville. His younger brother JaSiaha would start in his place. JaSiaha is a freshman. DeAndre is 55-3 in his career.
    • JaSiaha would have started at wide receiver.
  • West Charlotte was forced to wear older white uniforms because their white uniforms from this year weren’t allowed because they said “Dub C” instead of the school name or team name.
    • There are some number changes. A notable one is PeeWee Jones, who is in No. 13 and is normally No. 24.
  • The Farm Bureau Sportsmanship award went to Jytavius Whitted of Seventy-First. Mike Kpuih is the winner from West Charlotte.

1st Quarter

  • Seventy-First received the opening kickoff and started on its own 21-yard line.
  • JaSiaha Nance got the start at quarterback for his brother DeAndre. Jasiaha is a freshman.
  • Star running back/linebacker Donavan Frederick has a huge club on his left hand
    • Seventy-First’s first play was a loss of four. The second play went nowhere.
    • West Charlotte called its first timeout before the third down.
    • On 3rd-and-14, the Falcons chose to run with Frederick. It went nowhere.
  • West Charlotte took over on its own 48-yard line with 9:53 left in the first quarter.
    • The Lions were called for a hold on their first play.
    • West Charlotte just got Seventy-First bad on a QB keeper by sophomore Jamouri Nichols. He rushed down to the 28-yard line of Seventy-First.
    • Nichols hit sophomore Davion Jones for a first down up to the 13-yard line.
    • West Charlotte called its second timeout before the first down.
    • TOUCHDOWN WEST CHARLOTTE! Jamouri Nichols threw a seed to junior receiver KD Cotton into the end zone for a 6-yard score.
  • West Charlotte took a 7-0 lead with 6:42 left in the first quarter
  • Seventy-First started its next drive on the 20
    • West Charlotte made another tackle for a loss on first down, but sophomore Kaden Smith was injured on the play
    • On a 3rd-and-5, Jayson Franklin was tackled for a loss by defensive back Noah Collins.
    • West Charlotte is loading the box with 8, 9 players and daring the freshman to throw the ball.
  • West Charlotte took its final timeout of the first half with 5:07 left in the first quarter.
  • The Lions’ second possession began on the Seventy-First 49-yard line after a punt. 4:58 left in the first quarter.
    • After a short run by Nichols, KD Cotton broke through for a 20-yard run to the Falcons’ 24. They took advantage of Donavan Frederick missing a play after losing his helmet.
    • Big 6-foot-6, 325-pound sophomore John Archer strip sacked Nichols, forcing a 3rd-and-19.
    • On fourth down, West Charlotte’s pass fell incomplete.
  • Seventy-First took back over on its own 4-yard line with 1:52 to go in the first. The first punt was returned to the 14, but a penalty on West Charlotte forced a re-punt and the new punt worked out better.
  • DeAndre Nance came in at quarterback on this possession.
    • Franklin rushed for five yards on first down.
    • On 3rd-and-4, Nance gave it to Franklin and he advanced up to the 20-yard line for Seventy-First’s first first down of the game. That was the last play of the first quarter.

2nd Quarter

  • Seventy-First began the second quarter with a 1st-and-10 on its own 20-yard line.
    • Noah Collins has been a menace as a nickel defensive back. He is firing off of the end and is killing Seventy-First in the run game. He already has 3.5 tackles for a loss.
    • Seventy-First was forced to punt on 4th-and-10
  • West Charlotte took over on the Seventy-First 35-yard line after a nice return. 9:22 left in the 2Q.
    • Nichols found Davion Jones for a first down up to the Seventy-First 24-yard line. The Falcons are playing so far off in coverage. Easy quick completion and YAC.
    • A West Charlotte false start created a 2nd-and12 from the 26.
    • A Nichols scramble made it a 3rd-and-5.
    • Seventy-First called its last timeout of the first half before the third down. 8:02 left in the second quarter.
    • West Charlotte committed another false start to make it 3rd-and-10.
    • On third down, Frederick made an initial rush and a sack was finished by Xaiveon Gear.
    • Delay of game on West Charlotte.
    • West Charlotte got a sideline warning before a 4th-and-17.
    • On fourth down, Nichols chose to keep it and rushed down to the 25, well short.
  • Seventy-First started its fourth drive on its own 25-yard line with seven minutes left in the second.
    • The Falcons faced a 3rd-and-8 after mixed results on two runs. Noah Collins had another tackle for a loss.
    • Seventy-First had a pre-snap penalty to make a 3rd-and-12.
    • The Falcons FINALLY threw the ball on third down and DeAndre Nance hit Jytavius Whitted for a 50-yard gain to the West Charlotte 27-yard line.
    • On a 3rd-and-11, Nance scrambled around but had to throw it away. If he was healthy, he runs that for a first down.
    • On 4th-and-11, Nance fired out to Shon Pone, who made a nice move and picked up the the first down. It was close, but they didn’t measure.
    • False start on Seventy-First.
    • After a bad snap, DeAndre Nance wisely tossed it out of bounds. Such a smart player.
    • Seventy-First faced a 3rd-and-15 and Nance fired it out to Whitted, who powered for a first down up to the West Charlotte 7-yard line.
    • TOUCHDOWN SEVENTY-FIRST! JaSiaha Nance came back in at quarterback and he gave it off to Jayson Franklin, who spun in for a 5-yard score.
  • Seventy-First tied the game at 7 with 0:33 left in the second quarter.
  • West Charlotte returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, but the Lions were called for a hold.
  • The Lions managed three yards before the half ended

Halftime

  • KD Cotton and Jamouri Nichols have 33 and 32 rushing yards at the break

3rd Quarter

  • West Charlotte started the second half with the ball on its own 40
    • The Lions are having a lot of success with outside runs on this drive. After a couple of plays, they are inside the 30 of Seventy-First
    • Nice connection from Nichols to Donte Nicholson.
    • On a 3rd-and-7 from the 11-yard line, Nichols scored on a scramble to the left, but the Lions were called for a hold
    • On 3rd-and-17, Nichols made Gear miss and completed a pass to Jones to to the Seventy-First 11.
    • West Charlotte called a timeout before attempting a 4th-and-7 with 7:29 to play in the third quarter.
    • On fourth down, West Charlotte attempted a reverse and pass but was stopped by Nyrus Moore at the 6-yard line for a turnover on downs.
  • Seventy-First started its first possession of the second half on its own 6-yard line with 7:18 lef.t
    • Offsides on West Charlotte made a 2nd-and-3.
    • Jayson Franklin rushed for a first down up to the 17-yard line
    • DeAndre Nance threw an incomplete pass on 2nd-and-7.
    • On third down, Nance completed a short pass to Whitted, but he was tackles on the 21-yard line to make it a 4th-and-3.
    • Seventy-First elected to punt on 4th-and-3. DeAndre Nance seemed upset on the big screen. BUT! West Charlotte committed a personal foul on the punt, giving Seventy-First the ball on the 38 for a first down.
    • Nice pass breakup by Ramaj Daniels to force a 3rd-and-9.
    • On third down, Seventy-First appeared to pick it up on a 20-yard pass, but the Falcons were called for a hold.
    • On 3rd-and-21, Seventy-First elected to run it out of the shotgun and Franklin fumbled on a strip by sophomore Sam Johnson, who also recovered on the Falcons’ 27-yard line. Disaster series for Seventy-First after being given a free first down.
  • West Charlotte took over on the Seventy-First 27-yard line with 2:54 left in the third quarter.
    • West Charlotte faced a 3rd-and-3, but Nichols completed a quick pass out to Jones for a first at the 16
    • Nichols kept on a 3rd-and-3 to make a 4th-and-1
    • Seventy-First called its first timeout with five seconds left on the clock. West Charlotte appeared to be getting set to run a tush push.
    • On 4th-and-1, Seventy-First was tricked into jumping offsides. That gave West Charlotte a 1st-and-goal at the 4-yard line.
    • A tackle for a loss by Hector Bautista ended the quarter

4th Quarter

  • West Charlotte faced a 2nd-and-goal from the 5-yard line to start the fourth.
    • John Archer made a 5-yard tackle for a loss to start the quarter.
    • TOUCHDOWN WEST CHARLOTTE! Nichols fired a slant perfectly to Donte Nicholson for a 10-yard touchdown on 3rd-and-goal.
  • The Lions took a 14-7 lead over Seventy-First with 11:28 to play.
  • Seventy-First returned the ensuing kickoff to its own 24-yard line.
    • Shon Pone started this drive at quarterback. The first play ended up beng a slight loss.
    • DeAndre Nance returned at quarterback, but Seventy-First had a false start.
    • After a bobbled snap, Nance floated one into Jadyn Surgeon for a gain of 19 and a first down
    • Pone returned to wildcat QB to run a designed run for three yards.
    • Nance hit Whitted on an out to make a 3rd-and-3.
    • Pone rushed for it on 3rd-and-3 and was called a couple of yards short. The Falcons were called for a pre-snap penalty to make it 4th-and-7.
    • Seventy-First elected to punt on 4th-and-7 from its own 41-yard line with 7:27 left. That punt might come back to bite them.
  • West Charlotte took over on its own 25-yard line with 7:20 to play.
    • On 2nd-and-15, Seventy-First committed an awful pass interference penalty on a deep ball that wouldn’t have been caught.
    • West Charlotte was given a first down at its own 35-yard line.
    • FUMBLE!! A bad snap was recovered by Nyrus Moore of Seventy-First on the West Charlotte 30-yard line.
  • Seventy-First took over on the Lions’ 30 with 6:23 to play
    • Nance took a deep shot to Pone and KD Cotton made a huge deflection. The Falcons were called for a hold to make it 1st-and-20.
    • KD Cotton laid a huge hit on Whitted to force a drop.
    • Nance overshot Pone on 2nd-and-20
    • On 3rd-and-20, Nance missed a dump off pass to Franklin. He’s been inaccurate on this drive, clearly hobbled by injury
    • On fourth down, West Charlotte got quick pressure off the right edge by freshman Michah Walker and Nance had to helplessly throw it away.
  • West Charlotte took over with under six minutes left
    • Nichols completed a pass to Jones up to the Seventy-First 39-yard line for a first down with four minutes left
    • Seventy-First looks gassed on this drive and the Falcons have no timeouts
    • On 3rd-and-5 from the 34, Hector Bautista made a tackle for a loss back to the 35-yard line.
    • On 4th-and-6 with 1:46 to play, John Archer made a pressure to push Nichols off his spot and Nichols threw incomplete to the right sideline for a turnover on downs.
  • Seventy-First took over on its own 35 with 1:38 to play
    • The Falcons had two short gains but didn’t get out of bounds.
    • On 3rd-and-2, Nance somehow evaded a sack and got it to Franklin for a first down at the 42-yard line
    • Nance threw incomplete to Franklin on first down. The clock was stopped at 23 seconds.
    • Nance completed to Pone up to the 24.
    • Seventy-First did not get a spike off as it fumbled the snap. That’s how the game ended. On a failed spike.
