Mack Brown to receive Bagnell Award for contributions to college football :: WRALSportsFan.com
Former North Carolina head coach Mack Brown is the winner of the “Reds” Bagnell Award.
Brown is due to receive the award on March 14, 2025, at the 88th Maxwell Awards at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
The Bagnell Award is presented each year to a person for their contributions to the game of football.
Ahead of North Carolina’s regular-season finale against rival NC State, Brown was fired. He coached the Tar Heels in the loss.
The university has since named Bill Belichick, 72, the new head coach.
The 73-year-old coached at the collegiate level, including 36 years as a head coach at North Carolina (1988-1997, 2019-2024), Texas (1998-2013), Tulane (1985-1987) and Appalachian State (1983).
“When you think about impactful leadership on the football field Mack Brown would have to be right at the top of that list,” said Maxwell Football Club executive director Mark Wolpert. “His resume is dotted with impressive stops as a head coach over a career spanning almost five decades.
“Coach Brown has set a standard that few others in the profession can match and his contributions have helped shape the game that we all love.”
Brown posted a record of 288-155-1. The 288 career victories rank seventh on the FBS all-time list.
Brown helped guide Texas to the 2005 championship. He was the 2005 “Bear” Bryant Award winner and the 2008 Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year.
In December 2018, Brown was inducted into the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame.
