Bill Belichick introduced at halftime of UNC basketball game :: WRALSportsFan.com
It’s a sight that is still difficult to wrap the mind around: six-time Super Bowl winning head coach Bill Belichick in a Carolina Blue jacket and tie, walking out on Roy Williams Court in the Smith Center, introduced as the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels football team.
Belichick spoke to the crowd at halftime of the men’s basketball team’s 93-67 win against La Salle on Saturday. Surrounded by busy hands, either clapping or holding phones to record the moment, Belichick thanked fans, spoke fondly of former UNC basketball head coach Frank McGuire, and shared his excitement to get to work on the team, giving fans “something to be proud of” in Kenan Stadium.
After that, Belichick and play-by-play radio announcer Jones Angell introduced 4-star quarterback Bryce Baker, who signed with the Tar Heels on Saturday, as the first recruit under Belichick. Baker was initially committed to UNC under former head coach Mack Brown, but did not sign with the Tar heels during the early signing period in December. Baker told ESPN it was a phone call with Belichick on Thursday night and his aspirations for a professional lean to the program that helped him make a decision.
Baker is a top-5 dual-threat passer in the class of 2025 and one of the highest ranked players in the state. From Kernersville, Baker played high school at East Forsyth.
