Former NFL general manager and executive Michael Lombardi is joining the North Carolina football program as general manager under Bill Belichick.
Lombardi made the announcement Wednesday. UNC officially announced Belichick’s hiring late Wednesday. He has agreed to a five-year contract, pending Board of Trustees approval.
“I’m excited to join Coach Belichick at North Carolina,” Lombardi said in a statement posted by VSiN, his current employer.
Lombardi worked with Belichick for the New England Patriots and was part of three Super-Bowl winning teams. He also worked for the 49ers, Raiders and Browns.
Lombardi worked for VSiN as host of The Lombardi Line and GM Shuffle podcast.
College football programs, including North Carolina, have hired general managers in recent years as roster management has become a crucial part of a college program with immediate eligibility for transfers and NIL.
