Panthers Playbook: Hubbard leads Panthers to win vs. Giants :: WRALSportsFan.com
Yeah. Uh, I um, yeah, that’s a win. How the key keep. Hi, boy, this feels good. Right. Let’s get this sucker started, get dialed in. Panthers fans. Here comes an in depth. Look at your team exclusive interviews, locker room in sight. Let’s huddle up. Let’s just do it for Panthers playbook driven by Carolina Ford Dealers. Here are your hosts, Dennis Cox and Chris Lee. Welcome back to another episode of Panthers Playbook alongside Chris Lee. Dennis Cox here with you. We are the Carolina Alehouse and Carrie Aa AA after a 20 to 17 overtime win for the Carolina Panthers, by the way, Panthers playbook presented by our good friends over at Carolina Ford Dealers for the Ford F 150 on your team. See your Carolina Ford dealer today, Chris, they hold on. It. Got scary for a minute there. Listen, it wasn’t a good second half for the Carolina was not very good. It was not a good second half. But what they did though outside of theba Hubbard, uh, fumble, they took care of the ball. They did, they ran the ball and, and you know, you wish that the offense would have been able to do a little bit more. You wish that the defense, uh, would have, wouldn’t have allowed the Giants to drive it 90 plus yards, six yards on 13 place for a touchdown. But when it counted, the Carolina Panthers came together and kept it in. So a win is a win and now with two wins back to back and a by week, the Carolina Panthers are gonna go three whole weeks without a loss. Exactly. Let’s go three whole weeks without a three whole weeks without a loss. Three weeks, three whole weeks, three whole weeks, three whole weeks, three whole weeks. Um, the last time the Panthers actually had back to back wins was November, like last weekend in November and the first weekend of December in 2022 it’s been two years, Steve Wilks, we’ve had back to back wins. Steve Wilks, head coach, all of all of the stats where the Carolina Panthers were like an actual football team. Goes back to Steve Wilks. It’s funny they actually had a first half shutout. They were up 10, nothing at halftime, first time in 36 games, 36 games. First time since Steve Wilkes was Steve Wilkes. Like that’s literally what we’re looking at here. It’s literally been two years since we’ve experienced anything like this. So not hiring Steve Wilkes, put the Carolina Panthers back two years, but we’re here, but we’re here, we’re here, we’re here, we’re here, we’re here, we are right here, right here. You know, here’s the thing about as well today, Chris Chuba Hubbard gets the big contract extension. What do you back it up with? Career day? Career day for Cuba Hubbard? That guy is the reason why the offense move the ball today. There’s a lot of people who are against paying a running back and look, this is what I say. If your running back is your offense. If your running back is making sure that you are in that you’ve been able to win three games when it doesn’t look good. You’ve got to pay that guy. And right now what you said, this was the eighth best, uh, uh, I guess he’s the eighth highest paid running back n eighth or ninth highest, but he’s the fifth in rushing. It makes sense to me. Right. Like today, 28 carries 100 and 53 yards and look, and here’s, here’s another thing too and in the second, in the second quarter, Dave Canalis went away from Chuba Hubbard. He did, if you, if the Carolina Panthers would have helped themselves out a lot and maybe even scored again if they just would have had a steady diet of Chuba Hubbard 28 carries. I love it. We said that the sweet spot is, is between 23 and 25. Uh, he got a little bit over that because in this game, this is what you needed and you were playing with the lead, 153 yards, 5.5 yards per carry and a couple of actually 320 plus yard runs like he’s showing why the money was worth it. So when you pay somebody who’s worth it, they will always reward you. Shout out Chuba Hubbard, shout out Seth Jarvis. Shout out to Martin Natures. You know what I’m saying? Shout out to those people who get paid to produce because that’s what happened. So after the Panthers took it 10 nothing lead. This is the key point for me and then you take a 10 nothing lead. Giants go down. Graham Goodo misses a field goal. You get 10, nothing, you follow it up, three and out, you force the Giants to punt. You go three and out once again, then you get an interception. This is the one where the Daniel Jones threw it off at Jadeveon Clowney’s head and Xavier Woods picks it off. There you go. Six plays in plant during those three drives, those 12 plays only three carriers for CBA Hubbard. That’s it. And one of those drives is when Miles Sanders got hurt. Right. Yes, Miles Sanders got hurt during one of those drives and only three carries though for Cuba Hubbard during that stretch. It’s not good. No, it wasn’t enough. And then sure enough they go into halftime and then all of a sudden you’re 17 to 7 and then there was a 17 7 in the second half after the Panthers got a touchdown. Um, and then during that stretch, they go three and out giants get a long touchdown drive 96 yards one play fumble which Cuba Hubbard kind of had the knee buckled up there a little bit. Then you get an interception, but then you also go three and out after you get that other interception that you got, that’s the big thing that’s concerning to me is like there’s too many long stretches of inconsistency with this offense and it showed today only 17 points in regulation despite being up 17 7, you didn’t follow up, you had the ball up 17 7 and you didn’t do anything with it. I mean, a huge part of that too is just because like there’s inconsistency in play calling with Dave Camps, right? And look, you know, only seven points for the Panthers in the second half to 17, uh for the Giants in regulation and, and it shows right there, right? The Panthers, I don’t, I still don’t know if the Panthers know or accept who they really are and if you accept the fact that you are, you have to run the ball to set up everything else, then everything else will start flowing. Now, we can look ahead, you’re gonna go against a really tough Kansas City Chiefs team, the reigning Super Bowl champion. Hopefully, uh Jonathan Brooks will be up and now you can have the 12 punch between Jonathan Brooks and Chuba Hubbard, but you need to run the ball, especially against a team like that one for time of possession. I think they even lost time of possession in this game. Um, because the Giants had the ball 34.5 minutes to the Panthers, you know, 27.5. Uh, you lost time of possession in this game. Um You could have had a lot more yards if you would have, uh, been with the, with the run. Dave Canalis needs to look in the mirror, take some time during the bye week and really understand what this team is and learn how to call the game as such. Uh, because this game could have if it weren’t for Daniel Jones being Daniel Jones, honestly, if this is a better team, this is a loss for the Carolina Panthers and, and we talked about it last week and again, I don’t want to be Debbie Downer, but last week’s win was an anomaly because literally, I forgot the exact stats, but basically 275 teams in that particular situation that the Saints were in last week, win. Only one team lost, which was the Saints 2, 75 and one when you out a team by over 100 and you win the turnover battle and all that type of stuff. So the Carolina Panthers have been able to pull out wins at the last two weeks when technically they’re not supposed to. So now hopefully they are taking the lessons from these games to go forward. And so there are games you can win because when Dallas comes to Charlotte at this point, that’s a game you can win. So you, but you have to bring your, a game, you can’t play the game the way you did last week and this week and still win that game. So that can be a Jonathan Mango revenge game maybe. I guess we all, we had a little bit of a Brian Burns and a Meer Smith Mars and a Chris man, hers revenge game almost, almost, almost. And Brian Burns actually had himself a pretty decent game today, uh, for the, for the, uh, for the New York Giants had a sack of like what second play of the game play of the game had a couple of tackles for loss as well. But overall, I will say this though, the fact that you are still, even though you might be outplayed in situations, you are still finding ways to win a game. And that is something we have not felt in a very, very long time and say, hey, you know what, last week you got outgained by 100 and 50 yards, you had 100 and 50 yards rushing against you, you had less than 250 yards of total offense and you still found a way to win a game today, inconsistencies on offense left and right. Bryce went through for 126. Now we’re gonna fully acknowledge that there are plenty of out there. S li get late in the game. Sa H had one go off his fingertips was the most accurate ball. No, but yeah, you get two hands on the ball. You should catch it. I think Jalen Cooper even had one that he probably should have called as well. So there was a few drops that were out there that were left out there on the field, but you didn’t get a whole lot in your passing game overall today. It really wasn’t much of a threat. CBA Hubbard wasn’t, he was that guy for you today, but you found a way to win and I ain’t gonna give it back like I ain’t giving it back it back. If you want to establish a winning culture, you gotta win. And that’s the most important thing that this team is doing right now. They are starting to find ways to win and guess what? You bi week to get healthy. Here’s another thing that we have to talk about because if we’re gonna talk about the ways the Panthers could have lost, we have to talk about the other end because we are seeing Bryce Young get his swagger back that looked like not necessarily in the yards game but that body language, that smile that looked like Alabama Bryce Young and that’s what the Carolina Panthers fans have been looking for and waiting for this entire time. He’s been a little ho hum a little, I’m just thankful for the opportunity and, you know, my, my strength comes from the Lord and like that’s, that’s what Bryce Young has been today. He looked like. Yeah, boy, I’m gonna go get that and that there’s a huge difference because the folks who are, who are playing for you, who are blocking for you, they are going to respond to you how you put your energy out there. And I think Bryce Young is starting to see that he’s getting his swagger and you saw it in his game today. It wasn’t the best game statistically. But also, we’re not talking about Bryce Young being the reason why this team possibly gave stuff away. We’re talking about coaching. Bryce Young was solid. He was with what he was asked to us. He really was, he wasn’t asked to do much, but he was fine with what he did. Everybody happy with Bryce Young today. Were you happy with Bryce Young? Hey, gotta win, gotta win. That’s all that matters. Now, here’s something as well. I think the play that really stood out to me with Bryce today, there was a couple of them. He picked up a big third down to Xavier Liget on a beautiful throw. I got out out throw, amazing completion after time. Even Liget also at the time had a, had a drop already at some point in that game. But also when he scampered for that 24 yard run, dropped back to pass and like he steps out of bounds and going 2.2 fingers pointing this way first down. And it’s like, oh, ok. Like I was like, we, we were a bunch of Giants fans that were also here watching. It was all I’m like, man, you got, y’all got Bryce out here pointing on y’all like Bryce is here to point on you, Bryce is here. He’s right here. He’s here now. He’s right here. He’s right here. He’s right here here. I, I will say this though after the bi week. I, I honestly think you just stick with them after the biweekly. You stick with them this week. You already know what Andy’s giving you. Andy’s not part of your future. He’s just not, it’s just what it is. Andy gave you everything that you needed. Go ahead and roll with the young guy the rest of the year. Go ahead and roll with the young guy the, the rest of the year because you still, as an organization are still trying to figure out what you have. We have our beliefs on what he might be but guess what? We might be wrong but, but let’s talk about what they have because we were going through that earlier. If you look at six receivers caught the ball today, three of them Sanders three of them are rookies. Right. Javi Sanders, uh Jalen Coker and Xavier lit out of the six. So the future is bright. We still haven’t seen Jonathan Brooks yet. Right. Brooks. We, we should see him against the Chiefs in a couple of weeks. And then also, um we’ve got, uh DJ Wham looked really good on his stack today. Had a stack today once he really gets it like it, it almost felt like his presence made Jadeveon Clowney play better because I felt like I saw Jadeveon Clowney make plays that I’ve been wanting him to make all season and we just haven’t seen it yet. Right. So we’ve got him on the, on the books for another year. Hopefully they keep him. So Josie Jewel looked good to him. So like there are starting to be become bright spots for the Carolina Panthers, um, for the future, especially when it comes to these young pieces and these young pieces that we talked about. Xavier. Le got Jalen Coker Bryce, young Javi and Sanders. Hopefully, Jonathan Brooks when he gets in, this is gonna be huge for the Panthers in the next few years. And you vs already know you got Robert Hunt and Damian Lewis and Iki Kwan on contract next year as well. Taylor Moton, it’s kind of an iffy situation because his cap number is so large. He’s getting up in there in age. Like do, is he willing to take a pay cut that’s a major question going forward about Taylor Moton D so this season, but then you have a question at who’s gonna be your starting center going up? Which by the way, shout out to Kay Mays like you got Dexter Lawrence coming at you. Look good. Yeah. And he held up, he held, I’m not, I’m not saying that he’s like the future at the position. But hey, I give credit where credit is due. I know Dexter Lawrence’s name called a whole lot tonight. You know, it’s a roundabout way. But if it does end up working out, then at least that’s another draft pick that worked out for the Carolina people. Well, it’s funny he had to go to the Giants, you got to do it and then come back. It’s funny how that works. He had Dexter Lawrence’s name. I mean, honestly, yeah. Ok. He had four tackles. All right. I mean, he’s one of the best defensive tackles in the entire league. All right. He only had four today, one tackle for a loss, but he didn’t really impact the game a whole whole lot. At least it felt like here’s something that we have to talk about too. When’s the last time the Carolina Panthers won the turnover battle? It’s been a minute. It’s been a while. It’s been a minute, 3 to 1 a minute. And if we go back to it, it probably like we have to look that up really quick. But like, it probably goes back to Steve Wilkes again probably does. And, um, and that’s also like, we, we’ve been slamming on the defense for a while and yes, they are soft and they, they let, they let some things go that like, boy, you just wish they were better tacklers. You wish that the, the, uh, coverage was a little bit better, but forcing three turnovers today is not anything that, like, that’s a huge part of winning this game as well. And look where they came. Red zone, red zone start of overtime. That’s where the three turnovers took place today. Red zone, red zone start of overtime. I mean, the, the A Shaun Robinson force of the fumble, Josey Jewel recovers it that, that wins you the game like, oh, we’re just gonna give the offense the ball at the 25 yard line. You’re already in field goal range. All you gotta do is take care of the ball, which is perfect for the offense because they were stalling in the second half anyway. So, yeah, defense, defense in Chuba Hubbard, hey, you know, you hear coaches always talk about, we wanna run the ball effectively. We wanna play great defense, win the turnover battle, win the game there. It is. Love it 20 to 7. Should we talk to some of our folks that came out here to see it? I mean, they want to call my man right here. What’s your name? Justin Justin was watching the game with us. Um So first off, uh thank you so much for coming out and it was, it was fun watching the game with you and everything. What is your assessment of the Carolina Panthers with what you saw today? And what do you think the future is, future is definitely in the young players. Um We’re still working on play calling, you know, banning in the run is, is, is it killed us for a little bit, but I definitely think the future is definitely in the young players. Um I mean I’m just glad we got a win today. I ain’t gonna lie to you, man. It’s so it feels good to get two wins. I’m like, man, we ain’t had this in a long time, so I’m happy about it and um I definitely, I’m gonna keep watching, I’m gonna watch this episode when I get home too. Appreciate you my man. Thank you for coming out and watching with us. Alright. We have a couple of other guys, guys, you guys were over here watching Jonathan. Jonathan and Alex. Jonathan and Alex, a couple of brothers that came on over with us today. Alright. Um When was the last time I felt this good to be a Panthers fan since, since Steve Wilkes, I was gonna say, since Steve Wilkes. Yeah, that’s right. Um To me, I just felt like their confidence. I saw Bryce do the two handed point and I just felt like, you know, the young man’s getting his confidence, he doesn’t have anybody to sit behind besides Eddie Dalton and he’s doing his best. But I just really think that I think with that confidence boost, I really do think you’re getting an improvements boost with him as well. You like the Tuba Hubbard signing? Oh, yeah. Three years, 33,000,015 guaranteed. Good for him. Love it. Absolutely. Love it. Thank you guys for coming out. We appreciate you guys. Yes, sir. All right. So that’s gonna, there those guys are here on Panthers playbook. All right, Chris, let’s wrap things up here. Um, a bi week. Much needed. A lot of guys got nicked up today. Miles Sanders, ankle injury, I Thomas calf concussion. Three straight weeks of no lo with no losing. This is a beautiful, this is so beautiful. I love it. Y’all keep pounding, by the way. Panthers playbook presented by our friends over at Carolina Ford Dealers for Ford F 150 on your team. See at Carolina Ford Dealer today, we’ll have an episode for you guys on Thursday. We out.
