(3) Perquimans gets revenge against (1) Falls Lake Academy, advances to 1A state title

After falling just short of a state championship last season seasons, Perquimans’ volleyball team is officially going back.

Last year, the Pirates fell in a five set heartbreaker at Falls Lake Academy in the 1A East regional final. Tonight, the Pirates traveled back to Falls Lake Academy and delivered a swift 3-0 sweep.

The Pirates won the sets 25-21, 25-17, and 25-21.

“I just thank God. I had a peace all day, I just knew they were going to play well,” Pirates head coach Kristie Thach said after the win. “And they played so well. That’s the best they played all season as a team. They just didn’t let balls hit the floor. They were outstanding.”

In 2023, Falls Lake Academy faced Polk County in the 1A state championship after beating Perquimans in the regional final. This year, Perquimans will take on Polk County. Both teams are the 3-seed from their respective regions.

“We’re really solid all around. If one hitter is off, another hitter steps up. We just have so many options as far as hitting,” Thach continued. “We work well together. They mesh and get along outside of the court. That helps too. They just love each other and they want to fight for each other.”

Saturday will be Perquimans’ fourth overall state championship appearance in volleyball. The time has not been set, but we know that the matchup will be played at Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of NC State University.

Perquimas is now 26-1 overall on the season. Falls Lake Academy wrapped up its 2024 season with a 26-3 overall record and a 1A East regional runner-up trophy.
