No. 5 Hough crushes No. 14 West Charlotte to set up QCC battle with Mallard Creek
Hough’s football team was dominant in a 40-14 performance over West Charlotte on Thursday. The varsity game was one of many in the Charlotte area to be played on Thursday night to get ahead of the Yom Kippur holiday.
The Huskies’ front seven suffocated the Lions’ offense, creating multiple tackles for a loss and sacks which kept the West Charlotte offense off schedule. Cameron Cyr, Ayden Bell, and Sincere Brewter were among the players to make sacks.
Senior quarterback Trey Blakeney threw for four touchdown passes for the Huskies on offense. Thanks to his offensive line, Blakeney had far more time to throw than Jamouri Nichols, his quarterback counterpart on West Charlotte.
Two of Blakeney’s touchdown passes went to running back/h-back Jycen Anciso. One went to Sean Brady on a bubble screen and the other went to Tyran Evans on a fade. Evans got the positive momentum flowing for Hough’s offense with a 36-yard reception on the first play from scrimmage.
Hough (6-1 overall, 4-0 Queen City 3A/4A) is set up to play Mallard Creek at home next Friday. The showdown between the Huskies and Mavericks who are also perfect in Queen City play will effectively be the conference championship game. West Charlotte (4-2 overall, 2-1 Queen City 3A/4A) will travel to Harding next week to take on the Rams.
