No. 25 Enloe and No. 24 Broughton play to a draw, stay atop Cap-6 Conference
RALEIGH, N.C. — Enloe and Broughton entered the week tied for first in the Cap-6 Conference and ranked in the HighSchoolOT Top 25. Despite playing one another on Wednesday night, it doesn’t seem like either fact is changing going into next week.
The Eagles and Capitals played to a 1-1 draw at No. 24 Broughton’s home field, with the visiting No. 25 Eagles scoring in the 77th minute to force overtime.
Broughton (12-3-1, 3-0-1) took a 1-0 lead with exactly one minute left in the first half as the Capitals’ Miguel Narbona struck a free kick from about 25 yards out into the far corner of the net. It was the senior’s ninth goal of the season.
The Capitals had the majority of chances in the first half. In the second half, chances were hard to come by for both teams as the action was kept largely in the midfield and neither team found much success in linking together passes in the attacking third.
That changed late, however, when Enloe (10-1-3, 3-0-1) began to push for its tying goal.

Eagles goalkeeper Carter Shedd took a free kick from far outside the 18-yard-box along the right touch line. It was flicked on by a defender and tracked down by Enloe’s Owen Griffith. He turned and fired a cross to the top of the box, where it glanced off the foot of Mason Hinkle and went to Brayden Smith. Smith began to settle it and struck a through ball that met sophomore Jake Marting’s run perfectly to make it 1-1 in the 77th minute.
Enloe had more close calls in the two halves of overtime, but neither side could net a go-ahead strike. And so, for now, they remain deadlocked atop one of the toughest top-to-bottom conferences in the state.
