Second annual “Orange Out” sees No. 4 Green Level sweep away No. 10 Millbrook

In front of a packed crowd, clad in orange, No. 4 Green Level rattled off its 12th consecutive victory.

The Gators made quick work of No. 10 Millbrook, sweeping the Wildcats in straight sets. In the process, over $17,000 was raised by those in attendance to benefit the program’s second annual Leukemia awareness night.

Before last season, Green Level player Reese Roper was diagnosed with the disease. Roper took time before the match to thank the crowd for their support.

The N.C. State wrestling team, alongside the local InVINCEable Foundation, also addressed those in attendance and donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on behalf of the event.

On the floor, the Gators grasped momentum late in the opening set and never let go of it.

A 6-0 run helped Millbrook open the match with an early 7-6 lead. Isabel Davidian and Caroline Buffum inflated that advantage to 13-10 which ended up being the Wildcats’ largest lead of the night.

From the 16th point on, Lindley Miller turned in some of her biggest swings of the night to spark Green Level to a 25-22 set win.

Talia Francom fueled an early second-set run to push the Gators ahead 12-7. From there, Riley Taylor took center stage and capped off a 25-19 second frame.

As it has been for many, Green Level’s front row was too much to handle. Miller rattled the gym with a pair of kills, and rose above the net for a signature block to start the third.

Taylor and Francom got in hits to push the third-set lead to as much as 16-10.

Millbrook’s final push to stay alive in the match came in the form of USF recruit Breanna McMillan. Next to her three kills in the set, the lefty setter strung together four consecutive aces to pull the Wildcats within two.

A net violation and Caitlyn Axe kill rallied Millbrook back from a 6-point deficit to knot the third at 23-23.

Green Level responded with the final two points of the match to secure the 3-0 victory. Miller put a bow on the third set with her final block of the night for match point.

The 14-2 Gators jump back into conference play on Thursday night at home against Cary.

Millbrook, now 10-3 overall, puts its 5-0 NAC record on the line against Knightdale on Thursday.
