Everton and Southampton square off against each other at Goodison Park in what is expected to be an interesting EFL Cup encounter. The Toffees aim to make amends for back-to-back losses to Aston Villa and Bournemouth and, no doubt, they are desperate to put an end to their dreadful losing run in the Premier League. Left-back Vitalii Mykolenko should be fit for Tuesday’s clash despite limping off with injury in the Villa Park defeat, while fellow defender Seamus Coleman remains doubtful. Belgium midfielder Orel Mangala is widely expected to start against Southampton.

The Saints, on the other hand, made a slow start to the season, with the team losing each of their four league fixtures. As Southampton experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 3-0 loss to Manchester United, we are tempted to place our bets on Sean Dyche’s charges. To make things even worse for the away team, Jack Stephens is banned for the EFL Cup game.

Quite possibly the most talented footballer to have donned the Republic of Ireland jersey in the second decade of the 21st century, Seamus Coleman is an attacking full-back, who has been one of Everton’s best performers for quite some time.

Plucked from lowly Sligo Rovers in 2009, the highly rated footballer took to Premier League like duck to water and went on to become one of the best right-sided defenders in the league. Coleman has developed a knack for scoring amazing goals, and he already has more than a dozen strikes in the Premier League.

The talented footballer is still waiting for his first goal in the Republic of Ireland national team, but it is only a matter of time before he ends his international drought, even though that is not exactly his main job. The general consensus is that Coleman should have left Everton for a top club earlier in order to realise his full potential, but there is still time for the Irish footballer to grace the biggest stage.

Southampton are an English football club that have been playing their home games at St Mary’s Stadium since 2001. The Saints were based at The Dell in the past and the capacity of Southampton’s new stadium is 32,505. Southampton wear red and white striped shirts and the colour of the team’s away kit is navy and green.

The Saints have yet to win the Premier League trophy, but they did well to clinch the FA Cup title back in 1976, while participating in the final of the prestigious competition in 1900, 1902 and 2003. Southampton outplayed Manchester United in the 1976 FA Cup final and that is probably the club’s greatest victory ever.

The club are well known for their football academy and Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale is one of the players who began their football carrier at the St. Mary’s Stadium outfit. Southampton’s fiercest rivals are Portsmouth and the two teams square off against each other in the South Coast Derby.
