NC Girls Soccer Gatorade POTY Blane McElroy flips commitment to N.C. State

North Carolina’s top high school girls soccer player from a year ago is staying home.

Providence Day’s Blane McElroy, a HighSchoolOT All-State selection and the 2024 NC Gatorade Player of the Year, announced on Monday that she has flipped her college commitment from Purdue to N.C. State.

“Change of plans,” McElroy noted in her social media announcement, “It’s been a crazy journey, but I’m finally home.”

The midfielder helped the Chargers finish the season 24-1-1 and win the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 4A title and a No. 1 ranking in the final HighSchoolOT statewide top 25. She had 39 goals and 31 assists.

Entering her senior season, McElroy has 65 goals and 51 assists to her name in 71 games played. 13 of her 26 games played last spring featured at least two goals scored including a career-best four goal game against Carmel Christian

Along with HighSchoolOT All-State merits and the Gatorade POTY award, McElroy was the NC Soccer Coaches Association Player of the Year.
