North Carolina Central University amassed the third most yards of total offense in school history (669) and celebrated career record-breaking performances by quarterback Davius Richard and kicker Adrian Olivo, as the 14th-ranked Eagles cruised to a 55-14 home victory over Delaware State University in the final game of the regular season inside O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium.

NCCU concludes the standard season with a record of 9 wins and 2 losses. They now await the selection show for the NCAA Division I-FCS playoffs, which will be broadcasted on ESPNU at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 19th.

Richard, a student at NCCU from Belle Glade, Florida, achieved new career records for total yards gained (10,704) and completed passes (695). He had an impressive performance in his latest game, completing 19 out of 21 passes for a personal best of 386 yards and scoring five touchdowns. He also ran for 35 yards and scored another touchdown. Earl Harvey held the previous career records from 1985-88, but Richard has now surpassed them.

Olivo, a senior from Plant City, Florida, achieved a career milestone on Saturday by scoring 13 points and becoming the top scorer in NCCU history with a total of 281 points. He also set a new record for extra-point kicks with 149, surpassing the previous record holder Brandon Gilbert from 2004-08.

The Eagles, as a team, accumulated a total of 669 yards of offense against the Hornets, with 407 passing yards and 262 rushing yards. This is the largest amount of yards gained by NCCU since their 676 total yards on September 17, 2016, when they played against Saint Augustine’s. The highest recorded total yards for NCCU was 684 against Bowie State on October 30, 1982. The 407 passing yards is also the sixth-highest for the Eagles and the most since their victory in 2016.

Joaquin Davis, a second-year receiver, had an impressive performance with six catches for 128 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Richard also threw touchdown passes to tight end Luke Bracey and running back J’Mari Taylor.

In his final home game, senior running back Latrell Collier rushed for 75 yards and scored a touchdown. He currently holds the eighth spot in NCCU’s all-time rushing records with a total of 2,265 yards.

Defensively, senior defensive back Manny Smith, sophomore defensive back Malcolm Reed, and junior linebacker Jaki Brevard each collected a team-high six tackles. NCCU senior defensive lineman Karfa Kaba was disruptive in the backfield with 3.0 tackles for a loss and an assisted sack among his five total takedowns.
