Game 1: No. 25 J.H. Rose def. Cleveland 3-1

Rose fended off Cleveland when it mattered most to take the 3-1 win (19-25, 26-24, 25-18, 26-24). The two sides, both entering the match undefeated, split the first two sets. Rose trailed 23-18 in the second set before rallying to win, thanks in part to three aces from Francie Taft.

Rose led the fourth set 24-19 before Cleveland saved match point five straight times to make it 24-all. Rose responded with the next two to take the match 3-1 (26-24).

J.H. Rose’s Clara Evans, a TCU beach volleyball recruit, was active on the back row and front row all match long. Cleveland’s 6-foot-5 middle blocker Jolene Oddo stepped up with big moments in the first set.

Rose (6-0) remains undefeated on the year, but Cleveland (4-1) was the first team to take a set off the Rampants.

Game 2: Panther Creek def. Garner 3-0

Panther Creek (5-2) may have just two players on its bench, but the shorthanded Catamounts are off to a solid start to the year with a straight-sets win over the host Garner Trojans (25-22, 25-21, 25-19).

Carrie Desir led the way for Panther Creek’s attack. Garner (3-4) had its moments thanks to Cassidy Marsh and Sophie Raymond.

While Panther Creek has had some early-season injuries, they have some impressive results, including taking a set off Grimsley, one of the top Triad teams.

Game 3: No. 10 D.H. Conley def. No. 12 Orange 3-1

In a top-15 matchup, D.H. Conley’s defense stood out to rattle off three straight sets in a 3-1 win over Orange (20-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-16).

Conley (5-0) also defeated Orange (2-3) in the first week of the season, with Conley also winning 3-1.

Junior Britni Silver, who recently committed to N.C. State, had a number of thunderous kills for the Vikings to county Orange’s strong middle blocker Ava Wilkerson.

Game 4: No. 4 Chapel Hill def. No. 3 Green Level 3-2

A top-5 matchup between undefeated teams did not disappoint.

After dropping back-to-back sets against Green Level, Chapel Hill’s Tigers (6-0) roared back to take the fourth and the fifth to win 3-2 (25-18, 11-25, 18-25, 26-24, 17-15) with each of the last two sets going past the limit.

The Tigers found their form defensively, led by libero Kira DeVrieze, a Delaware State recruit, even as Green Level (2-1) was rolling with N.C. State recruit Talia Francom.

Game 5: No. 1 Cardinal Gibbons def. No. 8 Millbrook 3-0

Cardinal Gibbons swept previously undefeated Millbrook by a 3-0 score (25-23, 25-17, 25-20) thanks to solid passing and big games from middle blocker Charlotte Bell, a Wofford recruit, and libero Alina Ryan, a UCLA beach volleyball recruit.

The Crusaders (2-0) were under pressure at times from Millbrook’s serving. The Wildcats (2-1) took advantage of that to close a 12-3 gap in the first set and stayed competitive in the third set thanks to middle blocker Micah McKenzie and setter Breanna McMillan.
