No. 2 West Forsyth boys soccer runs away with season-opening win over No. 10 Lake Norman

As much winning as Haegan Paschold and West Forsyth experienced a year ago, the Titans’ star senior had a blemish of unfinished business in non-conference play –– beating Lake Norman.

Over the past three seasons, West Forsyth has played to a 0-1-2 record in its CPC vs. GM4 showdowns with the Wildcats.

All of that changed on Monday night in a season-opening 4-1 victory highlighted by a pair of goals from Paschold. Ethan Barghout added on as well with two penalty kick tallies in the match.

The victory was the first in The Village for head coach John Blake who stepped aside from his role at Ledford this past winter to lead the Titans.

It took 20 minutes for West to grab a lead that it would not relinquish.

Paschold danced through a pair of defenders and slid in his first of the year to break the ice. Barghout smashed a PK upper right in the 34th to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

A second half laser from foot of Paschold secured his 10th multi-goal game of his career. It pushed the advantage to 3-0, and opened the door for a late Barghout PK to go up four.

Riley Powell and Milo Lester held Lake Norman off the board until 2:28 left in the match. Pate Robillard earned a penalty kick of his own and buried it to avoid the clean sheet.

Both teams will head to Iredell County on Wednesday to play back half of its CPC/GM4 series. The Titans head to Mooresville and the Wildcats play host to Reagan.
