Curry wants one more accomplishment: Olympic gold :: WRALSportsFan.com

Although he’ll retire as the first unanimous MVP in history, a multiple-time champion, and the man responsible for making the Golden State Warriors one of the NBA’s most valuable franchises, Steph Curry has one feat yet to achieve: a gold medal.

It’s no secret that Curry has cemented himself as one of the greatest players to ever touch a basketball, but fans haven’t seen what that’s like at the Olympic level yet. The reason for this is that in prior Olympic games, Steph was either busy playing in the NBA Finals or recovering from injury.

The 36-year-old point guard honed his skills at Charlotte Christian School and Davidson University, skills he is showcasing with Team USA at the Paris Olympics. And despite accomplishing just about everything in his basketball career, Curry remains motivated and ready to secure gold in Paris.

With the expectations and the desire to win now, Curry is more focused than ever.

He also understands that at this point in his career, this might be his last chance to compete for a gold medal. “It’s probably, realistically, my last opportunity to even have a chance to play,” he said.

After the team’s heart-stopping rally to beat Serbia in the semifinals Thursday, a win led by Curry’s 36 points, teammate Kevin Durant praised him saying, “He had the best night out of anybody the whole tournament. It’s so incredible to watch him knock down shots to keep us afloat.”

The United States erased what had been a 17-point Serbia lead to win 95-91.

Asked about his performance, Curry said, “It’s everything I imagined it to be. Obviously this is my first go around in the Olympics. I knew we were gonna get challenged by a great Serbia team. I just kinda got lost in the moment of understanding how big the stage is and what’s at stake for this team. It was special. It’s the most fun I’ve had in a very long time.”
